I found my passion for creating jewelry in 2012, and that's when I initially opened this etsy shop. I started by making wire-wrapped rings and necklaces using semi-precious stones and selling them in local art shows and pop-up shops, with the intention of selling them through my etsy shop as well. After about 2 years, I wanted to expand my skill set and learn metalsmithing before posting my products for sale, so I enrolled in a Graduate program in Jewelry and Metal Arts. The program took 3 years, where I focused on a conceptual collection for my thesis, allowing myself to make whatever I wanted, as long as it fit with my concept of "Nature as Empowerment". 3 years of classes and practice culminated with a 15 piece collection of artistic works, which you can view on my website www.azitamireshghi.com.
After graduation, I no longer had educational constraints restricting me from making wearable pieces. I had suddenly entered a world where I could make anything I wanted, and this was quite overwhelming. 2 years of experimentation, and more art fairs and pop-up shops, until I finally found my aesthetic.
I have always been fascinated by stones and this comes through in all my work, all my life, but my passion is texture and combining materials. All my pieces have a textural feel to them, which I achieve mostly through hand-fabrication and wax carving. Creating the texture you see in my work requires intense focus, and is a type of meditation for me. The world suddenly melts away, and all there is is me and the material.
While running a jewelry business has so many aspects to it, such as photography, marketing, inventory, bookkeeping, etc... I am a one-woman show, working in a small studio in Santa Monica, California, and my absolute favorite part of it all is the creation process. So you can rest assured knowing that I have given all my heart to create each piece, and have done so in a state of joy. I hope that my pieces make you feel confident and empowered, and that they bring you the same happiness they bring me.
Each piece is unique as it is almost impossible to make replicable pieces by hand.
